If you haven’t guessed by the less-than-inventive name, Fruit 5 Lines is one of the most basic online slots you’ll ever play. That being said, basic isn’t always bad, especially when you want to get in and get out without a lot of fanfare. Despite its simplicity, there are many aspects of this game that should, at the very least, be appreciated. Before you write it off as another boring minimal payline game, check out some of its more redeeming qualities.

Not As Basic As It Looks

At first glance, this game looks like a version of the earliest speakeasy slot machines, but there is some nuance upon closer examination. The background looks like a plain purple wall; however, once you start playing, you’ll notice a pulsing light that sometimes looks like radar and other times looks like a spotlight. Either way, it is a welcome addition to an otherwise drab background.

The symbols mostly stick with the original slot symbols. You can expect to see fruits like grapes, watermelons, lemons, cherries, plums, and oranges, but on a more detailed scale than older slots. They had a depth and texture to them that makes them look more realistic than the old paper symbols they are mimicking. The game also has the familiar 7 symbols, but unlike similar games, this one is a special symbol, so it only comes in one variation. The developers did sneak in a scatter symbol in the form of a star, but don’t get too excited about its special feature.

Another area where this game surprises is the shockingly catchy theme music that has a taste of smooth jazz. There is enough variety of notes in the song that it doesn’t get old, and you may find yourself bopping your head along while spinning. The music also offsets the sound effects that would probably be more jarring if they stood alone, but the fact that they are covered up by a nice beat makes the two perfectly balance each other.

Light on Features

One way this game is exactly how it looks is a lack of bonus features. There is no wild, and the star scatter symbol doesn’t do much. You get an instant prize if you land three star symbols anywhere on the board. There is only one prize per win, and it isn’t anything too exciting, which is a disappointment because there are more rudimentary slots that have better features than this.

Come for the Ambiance

There really isn’t much to this game, so it isn’t any surprise that there isn’t much to talk about. What Fruit Line 5 has going for it is a fun, club-type ambiance that some players will enjoy. It truly feels as though this game is a Frankenstein slot put together from elements of other discarded games. If you are looking for a quick in-and-out game that is more fun than profit and has a great vibe, this might be the game for you. If you want something a little more exciting, you might want to look for a game with a few more symbols and features.
